Les Salines park is an atypical place located in the heart of the Sables-d’Olonne salt marshes, in Vendée. Things to discover in the park
The Salt Adventure Park is the main site of the Salines. During your visit, you will explore 10 hectares on foot and discover the history of salt in the region, from the Gaulish period until today. You can also see marsh fish and birds. During this informative and fun walk, the guide has a few riddles for children. Don’t forget to bring a hat or cap, because you won’t find the slightest shade in the salt marshes.
During the visit, the salt worker will share with you the traditions relating to salt, the different harvesting techniques, as well as the method of crystallization. This professional will do some demonstrations to give you an idea. However, the most popular activity for children is the salt harvest. Accompanied by salt workers, children will be able to learn how to harvest salt, and take it as a souvenir.
In order to fully discover the salt marsh, you have 2 solutions: take a guided boat trip, or rent a paddle or canoe. Concerning the boat trip, you will sail on an 8 km salty river. Whatever your means of transport, the park offers several thematic circuits.
Timetables and prices
The opening schedule for Les Salines park is from April to October. During the summer season, namely in July and August, the park is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The rest of the year, only the park shop remains open. From Monday to Friday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., you will obviously find salt, souvenir items, as well as regional products.
As for the boat trip, there are 4 departures per day, and you can book online or by phone depending on your preferences.
